ABOUT US
The Law and Society Research Group (GPDS) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) seeks to promote and disseminate high-quality scientific research in the field of Law, in line with the epistemological, theoretical, and methodological foundations of contemporary socio-legal research.
Established and certified by Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) since 2014, GPDS is led by Professor Lucas Pizzolatto Konzen, a faculty member at the UFRGS School of Law, and is affiliated with the Empirical Legal Research Laboratory (LaPED) of the Graduate Program in Law (PPGD-UFRGS).
The GPDS team, composed of undergraduate research students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates, conducts research—primarily empirical in nature—focused on the study of legal phenomena in Latin America, maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the most advanced international scholarship within the Law and Society movement.
GPDS has gained recognition for its socio-legal studies grounded in the perspective of critical legal geography, particularly regarding the regulation of urban space, as well as for its research on the relationships among the legal, scientific, and political fields.
